Tough Decisions

This has been one of those weeks where I had so much "stuff" to get done that it really feels as though I haven't made any real progress. I have also had some really crazy decisions to make concerning my future career path. These are the offers on the table:

  1. Teaching two course in my area of expertise (one junior and one senior) for both the Fall and Winter semesters, at a university 3 hours from my current location (so I would have to drive down on Tuesday morning and back home on Thursday night). This is a great opportunity if my career path meanders toward academia. Start date: September 2007

  2. There is an internship at a local health organization, for 6 months, in an area that I find really interesting and would like to gain some experience in. Start date: July 2007

  3. I am registered for a placement centres at a couple of large conferences to find the ideal, 1 year internship. Start date: potentially September 2007 or January 2008.

This is a really hard decision as I really, really love teaching however, I truly want to be a practitioner and not an academic. I really am not sure what to do...any advice???

I have to say I am really looking forward to the end of the semester, so I can head to the "shopping mecca" and then PV to relax.

Have a great week!!!

Are these all one time offers? Or are you able to, say, take an internship, and teach later? If you really want to be a practitioner, I would almost be inclined to try to get your foot in the door and make some good career connections... but I am the master of not practicing what I preach.

These are basically all one time offers. My supervisor has advised be against taking the teaching position, as it will delay my progress in a big way.

The teaching position sounds interesting (with the exception of the commute)...but if you don't want to go into academia, then it may not be the most relevant experience for you. If you took the 2nd option for July 2007, could you start a one year internship in January 2008? That seems kind of ideal

That is really what I am hoping for, I guess I will have to see how my interviews go.
